If there was anything learned about the April 1st knockdown it may have been to begin our campaigns sooner than 4 weeks before the election. Of course putting my foot in my mouth through some excellent editing over at North TV didn't help either. The clip ended to exclude my clarification. Maybe should have not done the interview as Troy chose.
We started at Herb Buckman's home, so thank you Herb for opening up your home for the candidates first meeting. Tremendous Thank You to last months members who folded the pamphlets that candidates handed out to almost 1800 of the towns residence. Thank You Wendy, Cara & Wayne for driving me around for several days in all kinds of weather. Thank You Dave for printing all those pamphlets. The app we all used called Numinar, was essential in targeting frequent voters. Jacob did a great job on setting up our NA-GOP.com website as well as creating some cool features in collaboration with Dave. Holding signs on election Day we all thank Bob, Melanie and her guy. Thank You Ed for allowing signs on your front lawn at Rt 1 & Fisher St. At least they weren't stolen along with the 20 that were, the Friday before Election Day.
Personally I made it to only about 420 doors, not nearly enough. I did however knock on several old school friends, met a lot of friendly townspeople who seemed overwhelmingly fiscally conservative. More than a few were surprised to know there was and election. Only 3 gave me a flat out thumbs down. Election Day saw both Sun Chronicle & North Star Reporter exclude photos of all but incumbent's in both digital and print. Sun Chronicle excluded any Letters to Editor from our candidates however allowed letters encouraging voting for others.
The total vote was about 12% of the 24,000+ registered voters. Not very earth shattering given that there were 19 candidates for 9 Council seats. Translation: Just over 2500 bothered voting on April 1st, There is work to be accomplished ahead & Councilman Mark Gould should have our unwavering support.
